Our ServicesAt Ross Refinishing, we offer furniture stripping (paint and varnish removal), repairs, re-veneering, refinishing, and full restoration for almost any piece of wood furniture or item.
Furniture Stripping:
We strip all furniture by hand (as opposed to "dip-stripping"). Stripping by hand lessens the risk of loosening the glue holding the piece together, and also the glues holding any veneer on the piece.
Repairs:Many repairs include items that are literally coming apart at their seams, or have been broken apart and need to be re-glued and reset properly. We can strengthen wobbly chair or table legs, replace missing pieces of wood that have broken off, and chipped pieces of veneer can be repaired. Sometimes an entire piece of veneer needs to be replaced and finished to match the rest of the piece. Refinishing:Once a piece of furniture is stripped and sanded, there are an endless number of possibilities regarding what color and type of finish can be applied to the piece if the original color is not desired. Color choices are typically made by the customer and can be either a stain or a solid color. In choosing stain colors, typically we consult with the customer in choosing a stain. Any traditional stain color can be adjusted to your liking. For example: A mahogany stain can be a certain shade darker or lighter, more reddish or more brown, ect. For solid colors, a selection can be made from color swatches from a paint store or magazine. Almost any color can be created. We use only the highest quality stains and finishes, including oil and dye stains, glazes, durable lacquers and conversion varnish, shellac (including traditional French polishing), and durable paints and outdoor coatings if needed. Restoration:Many times an antique or newer piece of furniture is missing an intricate or small section of relief carving, or is missing a significant part of the piece, such as a part of the stretcher underneath a chair. In most cases, we can replace the missing wood pieces, and carve and finish the new wood to match the rest of the piece. In restoring the finish on an antique piece of furniture, it is important to keep as much of the original finish intact in order to preserve the "patina" (rich color) that has built up through the years on the piece, which adds significantly to the item's value. Specialty Finishes:If you can describe to us any non-traditional ideas you may have for your furniture, or have seen something in a photo somewhere that you would like to re-create, in most cases we can do it. We are experienced in techniques used in producing finishes such as crackling, antiquing, splattering, and more. Also, a piece of furniture does not have to be only one stain or solid color. Maybe you would like the top on your dining table stained and finished in a dark walnut, but you would like the table legs to be a high gloss black lacquer. The possibilities are endless ... *Currently, we do NOT offer upholstery services, but feel free to contact us for recommendations for other companies in our vicinity that do. * Please contact us regarding Custom Woodwork, Cabinetmaking, and Furniture making.
